Financial transparency
DAR Talks asks people to fund the documentation of atrocities. That obligates us to account for the money in public, in detail, and on a schedule — not on request.
This page is where that accounting will live. DAR Talks has not yet closed a full financial year, so there are no audited figures to publish. Rather than fill this page with illustrative numbers, we have set out below exactly what will appear here and when. Percentages published on this page will only ever be figures drawn from audited accounts.
Legal status
DAR Talks is being constituted as a French association under the loi du 1er juillet 1901. Registration details — association number, registered address, and the published statutes — will be listed here on completion.
Donations to DAR Talks are handled by third parties, not by this site: in France through HelloAsso, and in the United States through the fiscal sponsorship of the Darfur Women Action Group. Each publishes its own fee structure and its own receipts.
Where our money comes from
Once the first financial year closes, this section will report income by source, as a share of total income:
- Foundations
- Individual donations
- Government and institutional grants
- Earned revenue — speaking fees, syndication, and commissioned writing
Alongside the shares, we will name every funder contributing more than €5,000 in a year, and state the amount and the year.
Funders do not direct editorial decisions or campaign positions. DAR Talks will decline funding that is conditioned on editorial control, on the framing of either armed party, or on the identification of survivors. Where a funder has asked for something we declined, we will say so in the annual report.
Where our money goes
Expenditure will be reported here against these categories:
- Documentation and verification — intake workers, translation, secure storage, legal review
- Communications and publishing — the site, the journal, the press work
- Survivor support fund — restricted; travel, childcare, medical referrals, and practical costs for the women who give testimony
- Operations — staff, insurance, hosting, security tooling
- Governance and audit
The survivor support fund is restricted, and is reported separately from general expenditure. No survivor is paid for testimony. See How We Document for what is offered and how it is recorded.
